Timeless Threads
Mid-Century Modern Rug Design concept inspired by Anni Alber’s experimental weavings.
These designs are inspired by handwoven textiles, particually the work of Anni Albers who is considered a pioneer in the artform of weaving and textile design. I wanted to look at the color interactions and movement that Albers uses and draw inspritation from them. My design is rooted in color blocking and striping techniques that I have learned in weaving classes. My color palette is based on a moderization of classic mid-century modern tones. I focused on creating a sense of rigid structure in my forms to create contrast with the more organic and free flowing patterns from the mid-century modern fabric swatches.
WGSN Trend Research
Through my trend research I found that some upcoming 2025 interior aesthetic trends are pairing classic mid-century modern colorways with contemporary graphic patterns. The New Retro trend draws on the comforting earth tones of a classic mid-century modern palette. The New Retro trend focuses on creating a feeling of nostalgia. This concept of pairing old with new will be further popularized through the trend of buying home goods second-hand.
